Well, the serial number is either kept in the regular flash ROM or in
the special flash ROM segment with the upgrade routine (part of the
ROM that isn't changed during an upgrade). In the first case you get
a new serial number everytime you upgrade your ROM, in the second your
serial number is always the same, but either way the serial number can
be changed by employing this hack. That may be good or bad depending
on whether you're on the paying side or the vending side ;-)
