i don't know about the other link programs, but TI's 89 software sucks. i had 1.08 beta to begin with and it worked some of the times. some times i would get a link transmission error, and had to fix it by closing the program and re-opening it up until it worked. (i did this because i know i had everything setup right) sometimes up to 3 times.
then TI came out with 1.10 beta and i installed that. well everytime i want to use it, i have to open it and close it three times to get rid of the link transmission error. it's actually worse than 1.08 because i have to do it everytime, compared to 1.08's sometimes.

anyway, that's my input.
