I agree that the Game Boy printer would not be very appropriate for text, but
would you really want to write an essay on a TI-89? (I suppose on an TI-92
this would work better)
The problem with a printer for the TI calculators is that to fit 11x8.5 in
paper, the printer would most likely be too big for convenient use. A printer
for smaller paper could be nice, however. The Game Boy printer could be used
to print out pictures, and small notes for class or other things. The sticker
paper could probably be replaced with a roll of normal paper. I don't know
the exact dimensions of the paper either, but the rolls of paper for printing
calculators might work.
