OK, am I the only one who knows what a flash rom is? :)
A Flash Rom is a new way of storing the calc's OS. Remember on the TI85, and
86 how there were several ROM versions? (About 12 for the 85?) With the 89,
they git rid of all of that. This new "Flash Rom" stores the OS and everything
in a writable ROM area. The catch is that Flash Rom can only be written to a
certain number of times- somewhere in the neighborhood of 10,000 (so don't
worry about wearing it out!) but can be read from an infinite number of times.
The nifty thing about flash rom, however, is that it maintains it's memory
when the batteries run out. The RAM, however, does require batteries and is
the only thing that is erased when the calc is reset or the batteries are
pulled. When ROM 1.1 or whatever comes out, and you load it on the 89, it will
remain there until it is overwritten. The ROMs can be transferred comp->calc
or calc->calc, so if someone wants a hot new game that requires ROM 1.3 or
whatever, you cand send it to them.
Did I leave anything out? :)
