Do you mean like solving equations with unkown constants like

5a + 7b + 13a - 2b + 8 = 18a + 5b + 8 
Note: extremely simple example

That would be extremely useful if this is what you are talking about...

Of course this is probally something completely different from what your
talking about but it's still a good idea...
