A86: MPEG player for calc
I'm sure this is a dumb idea, but has anyone ever thought of an MPEG player
for the calc? Sure, there is a WAV player, but that's only a second or
two. With an MPEG (or something similiar) format, you could have actual
music on the calc.
I read something on the internet (don't remember where) about an MPMan. It
was a Walkman-like player that played MP3's. It used 32m or 64m flash rom
chips. Sounded great, except the $300-$500 price tag. No thanks, but what
about the calc?
With 8-bit mono sound and 1:11 compression, you could fit a 1 minute song
into 64k of memory. Who said no one needed more than 512k on a calc?
Here's a great use for a ram expander.
It wouldn't sound too great, but it'd be cool to have your 86 play a minute
long music clip. Is the z80 and link port fast enough to decompress and
play music in real time?
