The old ones aren't very improveable.  It would take a hardware or
software hack (like the current ones) to improve upon them.  It just
isn't very professional and it would be hard for TI to give tech support
for.
As for which calc is the best, it all depends on what you need it for.
If you are in Algebra I you could do just fine with a TI-36.  The most
powerful currently out is the TI-92, but it doesn't make it the best.
