That's unnecessary. Any power down routine, written anywhere, with or without
ROM calls; as long as it truly powers down the calculator (and doesn't just
turn off the screen or something) will still let you change the batteries.
The battery control is hard-wired to the circuit board. There is nothing that
can be done (without say a hammer or a soldering iron) to change the way the
power supply is controlled. The problem that causes memory loss is that the
calculator is switching power supplies while on.
