I think the problem with this is that the parallel port goes faster on
faster computers. The serial port operates at fixed speeds (2400, 4800,
9600 baud, etc) .. the parallel port, on the other hand, will spew out
data as fast as it can. I'm guessing that the time delay loop in
link85xp is insufficient to slow it down enough on a pentium.
Of course, I could be wrong. :)
Quick note for others considering building the Parallel link (which is
what I use) : You can make it cheaply from the RS-232 serial *port* +
cable from an I/O card if you happen to have any kicking around. That's
what I use, I've soldered the leads from the RS-232 port directly to the
diodes, and I have used no wire other than the leads from the RS-232
cable and 2 diodes which I obtained from a burnt out power supply.
