All right, more news on the SDCC front.  It turns out that the documentation 
claiming that IY is not used it old, IY is indeed used in SDCC.  However, it 
looks to me (after some simple tests) that as long as a "good" copy of IY is 
saved and restored before you call any system routines or exit the program, 
you can change IY all you want.

Also, I decided I might as well through myseld full force into a 
developement kit for the TI-83 using SDCC.  Hopefully I can make a 
proof-of-concept release within the week.  Wish me luck.
