No, that's wrong. Packages are deb's, but are controlled through "dpkg",
the Debian package manager. Packages are normally installed via "apt-get"
using "apt-get install", although you can manually install a deb using
"dpkg -i". There is "dselect", but you probably don't want to use that.
The simplified interface you see when you install is "tasksel". I recommend
just finding what you want to install and using apt-get. You can search for
packages either on the web page (packages.debian.org) or using "apt-cache".
For example, "apt-cache search texas instruments". To display detailed
information about a package after you see the name in an apt-cache search,
use "dpkg -p".
In short, read the Debian new user documentation, and read the man pages for
these programs. They are quite powerful, if you know how to use them.
