I run a really nice combination since 4 years back.
2 computers, one running linux, and one running windows. Only the windows
one has screen and keyboard, the linux one is in a closet, so it can be on
24/7 without bothering me with its sound.
They are networked together, running an X server under windows, and with
smb shares and stuff, so I can transfer files transparantly between them,
and run programs written for X on the linux box, displaying output (and
taking input ofcourse) on the windows box.
Mostly I have a few xterms running.
This way the two computers feel like one computer, capable of running both
windows and linux programs at the same time.
Before the tigcc IDE, I used xemacs (running on the linux box) to edit my
files, and compiled them with tigcc (running under windows in a dos box) to
develope ti89 programs.
The linux box also runs my webserver (alh.dhs.org)
Right now the windows box is a P2-300 w 192M ram, and the linux box a
Cel-300 with 64, so no bias in computing power.
I really recommend it.
