A 6800 has more in common with a z80 then with a 68000 though.
8 bit, and similar assembler syntax.

Hmm. I missed out on the start of this discussion because of emailtrouble.
What was it about originally?
I don't know any processor where you can actually _change_ the microcode.
The microcode is a large part of what makes the processor behave as it does...
