There are two types of DSL: asynchronous (ADSL) and synchronous (SDSL). ADSL
has different speeds for uploads and downloads (with downloads generally
being faster) while SDSL is the same speed for both. Afaik, ADSL is more
efficient, though I'm not sure why.
