Re: A83: Shells on the 83+
Congratualtions to Matt Shepcar, now it's my turn :-) Here are some points about
shell fragmentation:-
Ashell and SOS - These shells should be abandoned (You shouldn't consider it
necessary to port to these), Ion is more portable and less programs written for
these will help phase it out. --THIS IS AN OPINION--
Ion 83 and Ion 83+ - Most programs written for one run without modification to
the src for the other. Only in some cases are there problems.
TSE - For the 83+ and new/non-Ion compatible so only a smaller number of
people using it if any (don't know, not written yet!). Not neccessary to port to
it either. The majority of programs will apear for Ion for a long time, it's not
as if TSE will detract from mainstream programs appearing. I can probably port a
lot of stuff anyway if it became an issue.
--Robin Kay--
P.S: I only use VTI for programming as well, though I do use it ocassionally
(for Maths) my main reason for getting it was for the ROM image. So, If you
don't have an 83 where did you get your 83 ROM from? Hmmmmm....
P.P.S: So I don't need a shell to help me when the calc locks up either, but I
would still consider it a valuable feature for those who do run it on their
calculators.
