Why?  Can't you use some sort of reformatting daemon (there must be plenty of
them available out there) that reformats any *.TXT files that don't contain
CR+LF? Or just use a text viewer that doesn't care about CR's and that
converts every LF to CR+LF (would be easy to write in C or something).
