well, there's the slow way. on many of Bill Nagel's games (Breakout, Tetris...), he uses a list where thelast three values are ascii values. You can play with that for now, as that's the best I can tell you.

This may be a stupid question, but is there a place where I can get a
table showing the binary values for the ti characters - esp. ti-83.
(the equivalent of an ascii table for ti-83).
