Kirk Meyer Stops Work on Byronic Shell
Posted on 16 August 1998, 03:31 GMT
Kirk Meyer has stopped working on Byronic Shell and released the source code to all three versions. Reasons he cites are the large number of shells for the TI-86 and desire to spend more time on other projects, including SIM Community 2000, Monopoly, and Lite86. Lite86 will soon be replaced as an on-calc compression tool. Kirk is willing to hand the Byronic Shell project over to another programmer, e-mail him if you are interested.

i thought that some of your ideas file were pretty good, especially the plug-in ideas. Please talk to matthew shepcar and tell him your ideas to incorporate into Rascall

NOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!! Oh the humanity! I was looking forward to your later versions. Can you not keep working on your other projects, and just work on the shell when you "have nothing else to do". I want to see another shell out there besides Rascall and ASE. They are great, but I think there is plenty of room for improvement. If you end up passing it on to somebody, I think TGA expressed that be planned to do it.

Damn. Too bad. It had great promise. It was more powerfull than Minishell, but it kept the size down. Your other projects are important, butI think that at least some time devoted to Byronic would allow you to do all those projects at once (Eventually!). It looked good, I just hope someone will pick it up and make it what it was meant to do. Great job, keep up the good work on your other projects.

By saying that Lite86 is, "soon to be replaced," isn't that sort of jumping the gun? It hasn't even been written yet!
