Plug your calculator into your computer link cable, then start your linking software. Send the contents of the 83 folder (TI-83), the 83p folder (TI-83+, TI-83+ Silver Edition, TI-84+, or TI-84+ Silver Edition), or the 86 folder (TI-86) to your calculator. If you have Doors CS, you can run World Domination I by clicking the Worlddom icon on the desktop. Otherwise, press [PRGM], select WORLDDOM, and press [ENTER][ENTER].

To start a new game, run World Domination I as described in the previous section. The arrow should be pointing to Mobilize, so press [ENTER]. If you already have a game in progress, you will be asked if you want to overwrite it; type [2nd][1][ENTER] (Y) to overwrite or [2nd][LOG][ENTER] (N) to keep your game. Next, type [2nd][cos][ENTER] (F) for a full game or [2nd][9][ENTER] (Q) for a quick game. Finally, type in your player name and press [ENTER].

The game engine built into World Domination I allows you to quit and return to a game at any point. If you are placing troops or selecting a continent to redeploy and you would like to quit, move the cursor into the extreme upper left corner and press [ENTER]. In any other menu, press [2nd]. You will return to the main menu, where you can arrow down to Quit and press [ENTER] to return to the homescreen. To resume a game, run WORLDDOM as you do normally, press [↓], and press [ENTER]. If you quit in the middle of a turn, you forfeit that turn, but your game should be as you left it.

When you first start a game in World Domination I, you will have either 5 (quick game) or 40 (full game) units. Take turns placing units on any land (dark areas of the screen.) To do this, use the arrows to put the crosshairs over the area where you want the unit, then press [ENTER]. Once all of the units have been placed, you will begin each turn with a prompt to select a unit. Use the [<] and [>] arrows to select a unit; a marching circle around a unit shows which one is currently selected. Once you have selected the unit you would like, press [ENTER]. You will come to a menu asking if you want to redeploy or advance. Press [1] to choose advance, or [2] if you want to move the unit to another continent. You can only advance within the same continent or across land; redeploying is needed over water. If you choose to redeploy, you will be asked to roll. Press [ENTER]; if you get an odd number, you turn ends. If you get an even number, you will get to select the continent you want the unit redeployed to, then there will be a brief pause while the calculator finds a random unoccupied spot on the continent to place the unit. If you choose Advance at the first menu, you will be asked to roll, so press [ENTER]. You will arrive at a second menu, asking if you would like to move ([1]) or attack ([2]). If you choose to move, use the [<] and [>] arrows to select the direction in which to move and press [ENTER]. If you chose to attack, the calculator will check if there are any enemy units within the number of pixels you rolled. If not, your turn will end. If there are, you will be asked to roll, and then the enemy will roll. If you get a higher number, the enemy troop is defeated; if you get a lower number, your unit is defeated. Nothing happens if the numbers are the same. If you have defeated all other enemy units on a continent, you get a bonus (see below). The calculator gets the same bonus if it defeats all of your troops on a continent. If you or the calculator lose all of your units, the game ends. If you win, you will be presented with a code that you can submit at Cemetech | Programs » High Scores.

In World Domination I, the goal is to defeat the enemy by destroying all of its units. The player and the calculator each receive 5 troops in a Quick Game or 40 in a Full Game, then take turns placing them on the map. When all units have been placed, gameplay begins. During his or her turn, the player and the calculator can move, attack, or redeploy troops. Units can only move on land; to cross bodies of water they must be redeployed. When a player defeats all enemy units on a continent, he or she wins the continent and receives a certain number of bonus troops:
A good strategy is often to focus on one continent at a time rather than trying to win on every continent simultaneously. When you are placing your troops, you can either spread them across the map or focus on one or several continents. Make sure that you do not attack or leave a unit within range of attack when it is the only unit on the continent. Once you have won a continent, it is a good idea to leave one or two troops in case the calculator decides to attack there, and move the rest to the next continent you want to attack. Try to attack continents with the fewest enemy troops first so that the bonus troops will provide extra strength to attack better-defended areas. Depending on how well th player and AI maneuver, a quick game takes from one to three hours; a full game usually runs 5 to 8 hours total.

The proprietary Aritificial Intelligence (AI) that runs the calculator's moves is built specifically for this game. When there are undeployed troops, it randomly selects a location on the map, then places the unit there. Once all troops have been placed, it randomly selects a unit at the beginning of a move. Next, it checks for the nearest enemy (player) unit. If the nearest enemy unit ison another continent, it attempts to redeploy, using the same rules as apply to the player. Otherwise, it rolls the die. If the enemy troop is within the distance specified by the die, it attacks the player; if not, it advances. If the aI chooses to attack, you and the calculator will roll the dice in the same way as when you attack. The AI also senses if all of your or its units have been defeated, and brings you to the Win or Loss screens if they have.
