I agree, we dont need quadratic equation solvers.

However, TI-68k calculators have a VERY powerful basic language, and I have written 30,000 lines of code in a giant program using unique concepts...

This idea will effectively KILL 68k calcs. If it is implemented here, bye bye.

And what about the 83+ program All Math? Damn that's a good one. And I doubt the author is reading this text. Are we gonna toss that program in the garbage as well? OH NO!

You keep on posting about this 30,000 line Basic program in 68k basic, but your profile says you don't even own a 68k calculator. I hope you do leave us.

30,000 lines in a single program would be unmanageable. It would take darn near an hour to scroll to the end.

Ever typed something on a computer? It has find and replace so you can jump to places in code

Some people don't update their profile every 2 seconds. For example my profile doesn't say I have a TI-84PSE since TIcalc doens't offer that option

I don't think they need to go to such drastic measures, but the BASIC archives *NEED* to be cleaned out. There's way too much junk in them.

I have to say that it doesn't seem too bad to me (if only it was real!), but if they were going to try to clean up the BASIC archives, it might be better to get the programs all rated or reviewed or something, so that authors don't get their friends to vote for their own crappy programs to be re-added.

Well, those "friends" would have to have ASM programs in the archives to have codes to even use. :) And if they were real friends they wouldn't help the person cheat the system.

OK, it would be a very bad idea. The first time, I missed the part about only assembly programmers getting to vote the programs it.

Have people rate each pending file and the highest ratings get added to the archives. The higher an author's files are rated, the more weight their ratings of other files would have. It would be like the recent files section, except it would be easier to rate them, and only a certain number of them would be permanently added to the archives after a certain time period.

Yeah, and what about crap asm. THose do more than just take up space. THey kill calculators. I happen to be a basic programmer and I don't post every freaking stupid thing I write. I have over 3000 downloads too, so what I do upload isn't exactly crap.

I currently have 5773 downloads, with 5 of the 8 programs being in BASIC. What's your point?

whoops, sorry that was 300, but now it's over 400. I have been posting files for less than a month. My point is: Basic isn't necessarily crap. It gets downloaded to. Unfortunately every "2 bit" programmer out there who thinks hes a nerd post's crap. Mac forever! PC sucks

Dude, I have 101110 downloads (yes, that is in decimal, not binary for 46 ;-)) and [most of] my programs are utter crap. Just because a bunch of people download your program doesn't mean it's cool. I'm not saying yours aren't, but you can't base that kind of thing off download statistics. Feedback's a better thing to go off of.

i think they should give 'more' previleges to users... what i mean with more... like:
- one-click to erase a file (ok a confirmation can
implemented too...)
- give some limited space to users, like 5 Mb, users
that need more have to request it
- files can be comment by the other users...
- ... etc ...

This will filter some garbage... and allow users leave tips or sugestions about a program...

for calc programs, 5 Mb is a lot...this would just encourage people not to have animated screenshots. They take up the most space. Animated screenshots are good because they help us know what the program is. Getting rid of those doesn't help anyone.

Uh...they have it already. See the link on the file info page that says "would you like to write a review for this program?"

"- one-click to erase a file (ok a confirmation can

And now I have an other prog which has to be removed. I won't send a new email anyway, I don't wanna wait for such a long time again...

Yeah, they have a pretty slow response time. Only one of my programs has had the screenshots added, and I upload screenshots with over half my files. It shouldn't take that long to check for appropriateness

I've got about 4500 downloads, but I only ever get feedback on one. It is...

A quadratic solver!

But at least it actually factors and shows its work. I get feedback on it because it's one of the first things you see if you google quadratic factor program.

Quadratic solver != quadratic factorer.

Actually you can find the roots of a quadratic equation from a quadratic factorer or solver, so a quadratic factorer can be considered a quadratic solver.

Yes, but a quadratic factor isn't in the 83+ OS. A quadratic solver is.

What I'm trying to say is that quadratic factorers are just fine in the archives here, IMHO.

why not just split the basic program section into subthreads like -rpg, puzzle games, tunnel games, icle games, rpgs, ect (that would make it a bit more managable)

The big flaw with this system is that it would utterly destroy the developer community. There already is some tension between assembly and BASIC developers, and this system would only augment the stress.

Assembly programmers would be extremely biased when they selected BASIC programs to remain on the site. They would only invite their own programs that they wrote before they learned assembly (most assembly programmers were BASIC programmers at some point), they would only invite BASIC programs written by friends of theirs (regardless of how good or bad the programs are), and they would only invite BASIC programs that they regularly use on their calculators (not necessarily useful or worthy programs). With this system, many worthy programs will be left out of the archives. Also, it may be years before all of the invites are used up, leaving out a lot of important software.

The stress that would be induced by the proposed system would probably cause most BASIC programmers to break away from ticalc (more than half of the developers here) and form their own site. Ticalc would no longer be the dominant provider of TI software. The scism would crush the unity of TI development. Fortunately, the system is a joke :)

I totally agree. I do not know any assembly, but an expert at BASIC. Even though I don't upload any files (because I don't have any great ideas nor have the time to create anything worthy enough to upload), other major programmers would definitely feel offended by this apparent disregard for the power and simplicity of BASIC.
