Survey idea by Tim McMahon.

...and math abilities of course! It's a calculator, you have to use it to calculate!

w00t! I would've chosen "All of the above" but I was too quick to choose "CPU Speed" ><
Mathematical capabilities would reflect on all features that a calculator has but calculating the exact and handling algebra is always a good feature.

All of the above is the best choice. If you have one, but don't have the others, then it's not worth it, in my opinion. I'd look for some mixture of all of them, except for "color and physical design."

i think color and physical design are important too. i don't want to spend a year or two looking at an ugly calculator.

But the new 84+s and TI-89Ti's are incredibly bulky.

I agree, I don't care if my calc looks like a Llama, as long as it integrates.

Oops I didnt see the choice of all of the above lol. I look for speed and memory, although all graphing calcs basically are fast, though I do see significant changes between the 83 and 83. Memory is good to have, for games. I voted for looks and colors, because i dont want an ugly calc, my ti-84 plus silver edition rocks!

I care about Math, FLOPS, and RAM, in that order.
I also like a good input interface, but even PC's don't have that yet. I want one of the brain implants in medical trials right now. Fortunately/Unfortunately I don't qualify.

I'm highly suspicious of biological chip implants. I don't want to start a flame (so please don't flame), but in my opinion biochips are going to be one of the most powerful tools of manipulation and deception that the Antichrist will have at his disposal. I would never want a chip or computer in my head.

That would take marrying your calculator to a whole new level.

I totally agree with you dude. I've seen so many experimentations such as getting a type of chip implanted in your hand so that it can hold all your credit card/banking stuff on it to prevent fraud...this is all going to lead to the Mark of the Beast...

Right. It would be *so* easy to accidentally (if not intentionally!) modify or fry someone's brain. It could also lead to something like in the book "1984", where the government could really make you believe what they wanted you too, not just try like they do now. ;-)

1984 eh? That was a really scary idea... I really hated reading that. I agree though, brain chip implants are bad^999999...

that's a good point, but not necessarily true. I wouldn't hesitate for a second if:
a) painless proceedure
b) no network/internet interface

Did you read b? Without a network or internet interface, hackers would have to have physical access to the thing to have any sort of access.

although I agree with what you say, I still think having some sort of overlay system hooked up to the visual cortex would be pretty sweet... Instant googling on the go, GPS without any bulky equipment, news updates on the go, etc... of course, if MS software powered it, you'd have to expect to be blind every time it reboots, and you'd get plenty of pop-ups, etc...

Re: Re: Re: Re: What do you look for when buying a calculator?

and to be a bit more on topic, all of the above except physical design. If the calculator has all other models beat in all the other areas, I'd assume whoever designed it would have given it a usable interface, or that someone would fix a bad one via the programmability (as would probably be one thing editable if it's programmability exceled above other calcs...) color... so long as it's got an office-type color and/or transparency (not translucent) I could care less about it... fancy colors just make the thing look more like a toy...
