A USB port, that has some interesting possibilities.

I'm satisfied with my current calculator too. I have a TI-89 (all hacked up inside), an HP 49g (not the new kind, whatever they're calling it now), and I got a Pickett slide rule for Christmas.

I hope that the transfer is more fast too :)

What's all this stuff about tubes and relays?
ti_is_good_++  Account Info

I know that at the URL above you can get a USB/DBx adapter so you can use the midnight gray cable with your PC.

89Ti will probably cost about $200 retail, $160 on the net.

UPDATE?
Hey, anyone on the ticalc.org staff here going to add 84+/SE & 89T to the Basics and Archive sections??? *just a thought* ;-P
If anyone can get better (close up, all angles) screenshots of the 84+/SE and 89T, it'd be much appreciated if you could post some.
Might pass on the 84+/SE if it's just a fashionable update with just (contrast/memory/speed) updates.
89T sounds tempting, seeing how I don't have an 89.
It'd be great if TI could make memory drives for the USB ports to expand the memory...
*I can always dream* >=P

Well, the 84+(SE)/89Ti hasn't come out yet, so the answer to your first question would be no. You could email ti-cares@ti.com, though.

Well, though the 89T has the same amount of memory as the V200, is there a processor upgrade? If not I'm not even going to consider gettting it.

ATTENTION!
USB capability now! Just need someone to make USB-FLASH-DRIVES work with the 84+'s. Probably need a program to act as a driver, that is ofcourse that the USB port is right or an adapter/power source will work... The endless amounts of MB...

...MB seems a little more accurate for me, I don't plan on spending $AU500 for a 1GB Drive any time soon. Unless I can get one for $AU200 wholesale or something. ;-D
Then again, with USB HD's someone might take the time to make an 84+/SE/89T support them. (89T, yay)

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Your next calculator?

TRUE no endless amount of MB but if you consider the amount of memory a game takes up like (i.e. phoenix [83+] is usually about 8000 BYTES) SO if you put a USB memory expansion then the amount of games that you would be able to put is ENDLESS. SO even though there is no endless amount of MB, a 64 MB expansion would probobly be enough to hold almost all of the games in the 83+ archives :-)

let's port linux to it, with that much space! the flash is minus the OS, so i'ts about 5 megs actually. that's plenty of space for a microkernel.

Picking nits is my specialty, so here goes...

A "microkernel" is a kernel whose purpose is solely low-level jobs (e.g., task-switching, virtual memory), and user-land processes live above it which provide most of the services.

I imagine you just meant a really small kernel that can fit in a small space. That probably wouldn't be a problem for Linux; I've estimated that the Linux kernel could be trimmed down (remove unnecessary drivers, abstractions, and other capabilities) to only a few hundred kilobytes. Keep in mind that the original Unix ran on a PDP-7 with only (IIRC) 28K of RAM!

maybe...but i would prefer a new line totally...a TI-96. With a resolution 20x that of an 89, color, 5MB RAM and 16MB ROM, ability to run Z80 and 16K programs and APPS, 10x faster than an SE, custom fonts, customability, the best PW protection...all built in. the again, im probably dreaming...

That's why I'm aready statisfied with my normal TI-89: I already have a Sony CLIE PEG-NX80V! It does everything my TI-89 can't do, so I have no current need for a TI-89TI. Besides, they will probably have a new version of AMS (3.xx?) and developing for it may prove more difficult (unless the TI-Chess Team is able to make compatability changes in their next version of TIGCC).

Does anyone actually know what the number designation stands for? You would think a 92 is better than a 89 because of the higher number, but it isn't. I was just wondering.
