Author's Note

When I was looking at new programs created for the TI-83+ on http://www.ticalc.org/, I encountered a program that displayed guitar chords (I will not mention the name of the program). I say it was a demo, so I looked at the included text document. The programmer had wanted you to send him $3.50 with a self addressed stamped envelope to him and he would send you a floppy with the full version on it. This made me mad, so I decided that I would create an identical program with 106 chords, and send the whole version to ticalc.org so hundreds and hundreds of people can enjoy my program. This only took me 2 days to program (3 if you count my RAM clearing on the first day of development). So please use my program for free, and give it to all your friends for free, and have them give it to their friends for free, and I think you get the picture. Programming is one of my favorite hobbies and it brings joy to me when people are using my programs.

Thanks for your support, Jesse Stark

Instillation

  1. Send CHRDPRGM.8xg and CHRDLIST.8xg to your TI-83+ via the link cable.
  2. UnGroup CHRDPRGM and CHRDLIST by pressing [2nd]+[+] to access the memory menu. Then press [UP ARROW]+[Enter] to access the group menu. Next press [RIGHT ARROW]+[Enter] to UnGroup CHRDLIST. Finally, repeat the process but instead of pressing [Enter] to UnGroup CHRDLIST, press [DOWN ARROW]+[Enter] to UnGroup CHRDPRGM.
  3. If you are accessing the A, B, or E chords only, you can archive programs ZCFCHRD and ZDGCHRD and lists CCHRDS, DCHRD, FCHRD, and GCHRD. If you are accessing the C or F chords only, you can archive programs ZABECHRD and ZDGCHRD and lists ACHRDS, BCHRD, DCHRD, ECHRD, and GCHRD. If you are accessing the D or G chords only, you can archive programs ZABECHRD and ZCFCHRD and lists ACHRDS, BCHRD, CCHRD, ECHRD and FCHRD. Otherwise, leave all these programs and lists unarchived.

User Manual

Guitar Chord Database v2.0 offers you access to over 100 chords. Each chord is displayed on an easy to read 5x3 grid with the guitar string letter/name (EADGBE), the fret number, and the name of the chord. You will be able to view these chords quickly without a confusing look to them. There are three simple screens you will see in this program. Each one is described below.

Main Menu

This menu is your basic menu. I will not describe how to use this other than, you must press [ON] to quit the program.

Chord Menu

In this menu, you us the number pad to select the chord you want to see. Make sure you add a "0" before a single digit number.

Chord Screen

This screen has the most going on. The "1" on the left side of the picture, tells you what fret you start on. If an "X" is over any one of the letters (EADGBE), don't play that string. The circles on the lines tell you where to press the strings on the guitar. If you need more help with this, email me for a more detailed "User Manual".

Be sure to make the subject "Guitar Chord Database v2.0" or else I will not respond as quickly. If enough people download this program, I will make more advanced versions with more chords. If you want certain chords added to this program, email me with the chord name and list the chord in this format {1,2,3,4,5,6}. (Example: Am {0,0,2,2,1,0})
