Castlevania is an amazing series, and though Simon's Quest is not the optimal game to be ported, I can understand the author's choice.
It is a simple game, and there is no leveling, yet lots of monsters, so a lot of time will be spent purposelessly. The difficulty is actually too hard, and there is no significance in the number of lives you have.
Besides the difficulty, this is a neat little game to pick away at during school... at lunch time, of course!
