What about Game Gear? That still remains one of my favorites! Anyway, I'm usually too busy programming in math class to play games.

I don't really play calculator games at school, but I do at home. At home, I play my GameGear with "Tails Adventure", though more often I'll be messing around with my TI-83+.

I *prefer* to play on my old-school GameBoy pocket (I have the [broken] guts of a REALLY old-school GameBoy sitting around somewhere), but I do play on my 89T, and to a lesser extent, 83+, much more often.

Actually, come to think of it, where's the My Cellphone option, you insensitive clod. ;P j/k j/k though I do play tetris (IN COLOR) on it quite a bit. :D And I don't really think a laptop would quite qualify as hand-held, as I can't really hold it in my hands when I'm playing on it.

I was going to mention that cell phones and PDAs should have been a catagory, but I'd still prefer one of my game boys.

Ah, but there is always the Toshiba Libretto - which has a 7.something" screen & weighs 2.2lbs, & so should be possible to hold in one's hands like a TI-92+/V200 (assuming, of course, that one could control it adequately in that position). Now if only it were $1000 cheaper.

I was considering getting the NitendoDS when I heard that Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory was going to be on it, but I have since heard bad things about the game for DS (very bad controls and camera movement). Oh well, there's always NitenDogs.

Nintendo DS can't do squat... The NDS is purely a gaming machine, and, until the release of Play-Yan Audio-Video Player in the U.S. or a possible Palm-based organizer... It will never be able to do anything...
Anything, that is, except play extremely popular 1st-party franchises, innovative games, and fun new takes on old concepts...

PSP does everything... It can emulate Windows and Linux... Obviously it can emulate NES, SNES, PSOne... Eventaully it might even be able to emulate NINTENDO DS ITSELF. The thing can go on the internet... You can IM people... You can mod or hack it do do just about anything...

Which one I prefer depends on my mood. I don't play video games that often anymore, but occasionally, I'll start playing them a lot and really enjoy it.

My only handheld game device [besides calculators, which are much more than that ;) ] is a Gameboy Color. The Gamebody Advances are nice, but I don't feel that I play often enough to justify spending the money.

yeah, i would never consider wasting >= $100 on a gba/ds/psp that i would play a game on maybe a few times a month, but i just bought an 89 and the first thing i did was put games on it. also, some games i can download for free to the calc are more fun than gbc games you have to pay for anyway.

My favorite feature with TI's graphing calculators is the versatility--you can write and install programs and make it do just about anything you want (within the hardware's limitations) and carry them around. That can make them worth the money in many ways, because they're more like handheld computers.

I think it would be cool if TI focused on making handheld computing devices like this. But then again, I guess that's what palm pilots are for. ;-)

People always point out how PDA's, Gameboys, &c. are not allowed on tests, yet if TI keeps adding features & speed to their calculators, they will eventually catch up (or at least, become powerful enough to easily do things that are very non-test-environment-friendly).

I don't think that calcs will catch up anytime soon. It's easy for TI to make a color screen calc with support for 3d gaming, with a rechargeable battery, but it just won't happen.

Hmm...the GBA Movie Player uses CF cards. I use it in my GBA to listen to music while mowing the lawn (using noise-cancelling headphones, of course) & to show people my favorite digital pictures. Also, it has an e-book reader. These things justified the GBA for me (not that Super Mario World did not do that already :)).

The PSP has movies, music, photos, internet, AND homebrew! Plus it has 1.5 times the pixels of both screens of the DS COMBINED! And the "plasma" widescreen (NOTE:I know it is not a plasma screen) is ideal for watching movies.
