Continuing the 85 would be pointless because there is a 86 shell that can perfectly emulate 85 programs, not that there is anything good to emulate anyways.

They all would be pointless, as there are better, newer versions availible.

Yeah, well that's what happens when you update a product; the older models become obsolete.

Possibly the TI-85. Besides that, I'm perfectly happy with my TI-89 Titanium.

In recent news, Texas Instruments released a "new" calculator - the TI-81 CE, or Collectors Edition.

Featuring the letters "C" and "E" (both very shiny) after the TI-81 in the top-right corner, with "Collectors Edition" (also very shiny) beneath, it is exactly the same as the original TI-81. Very nice for those memories. Get yours today!

Ah, no good if you can't write assembly progs for it. :-P

There are at least 2 different versions of the TI-81 ROM (1.8K & 2.0V), which would lead me to believe that they might have fixed a bug (since there are no visible differences other than the version number). If that is true, such a bug might allow the execution of user machine language code. It uses a Z80, so it would not be hard to write programs for it. Also, if anyone cares, I have a (partial) TI-81 memory map & ROM call map.

It would be kind of hard to get the machine code into the calculator in the first place without a link port, though.

It could be entered from the keypad, assuming a suitable bug that would allow executing it could be found. PRGM0 is always located at the same address. It would only be useful as a display of hacking skills, not for playing games or anything like that (unless the code was really small, which seems unlikely).

And even if you could, it would probably be almost useless because of the available RAM--IIRC, only 2400 bytes(!) shared by programs and statistics data.

That is correct, but it actually has 8K, some areas (not just the program space) of which could be used for ML code.

I think it would make a good fake ticalc.org news item, if it hasn't been used already.

They probably don't list is since there might be confusion between http://www.datamath.org/ Graphing/TI-73.htm and http://www.datamath.org/ Graphing/TI-73_Explorer.htm . Of course, this is just a guess.

TI-81? The TI-92 would be better but then again since it is not allowed for use on most standardized tests (not elementary tests because the kids would be kicking the living daylights out of the 92) and also it doesnt do us any good (except the high quailituy 68k assembly games

But does it really have any use nowadays? It is OLD!!! OBSOLETE!!!! In my opinion, the only thing it's good for is . . .
Well, you see, I can't even think of anything! But seriously, the TI-81 is probably only good for collecting. You never know; maybe TI will make a museum someday and display all the calculators it has ever made. I know I'd go to it!

So what if it's old? I still think it'd be cool to have one.

Sad thing is I would probably still be able to beat 90% of the people in the calculus classes at my school this past year using it...
