i only let people use my 89 when they are sitting right next to me. Of course my 89 is not really my 89, its my brother's 89, but he loaned it to me indefinitely about 2 years ago. When someone needs a calc though, im happy to give out my 83. if they need a calc the probably wouldnt even know how to use an 89...

Dude, I know what you mean. I've let people borrow my 89 and they have no clue how to get to the main screen. They just don't understand when I tell them they're already at the main screen. "But it's got stuff on it!"

And just in case anyone's been watching my posts and is wondering why I say "Dude" at the beginning of most of them, it's because once on Counterstrike I started shooting my own teammate when friendly fire was off. After two rounds, he finally said in his mike, "Dude, we're on the same team." It was kinda funny.

Oh, I know! It's so funny! This is an extremely common conversation I go through in chem class.

"Phil, can I use your calculator?"
"I'm playing a game, just a minute." *finishes playing Excitebike and looks up*
"Can I use your calculator?"
*pause* "For what?"
"To calculate my grade for this marking period"
"Mmm... okay" *gives calc*
"What's this password thing?"
"Oh." *takes back, puts in password, gives back*
"Ahh, what's all this... stuff on the screen?"
"Ignore it, just type your stuff in"
"How do I clear it?"
"Type your stuff in, it doesn't matter"
"Eh okay..." *types division problem in* "AHH! It doesn't work!"
"It's just a simplified fraction. Hit diamond and enter to get a decimal."
"Where's this diamond?"
"The green key at the top."
"Where?"
"Here." *takes calc and does the problem for them, then tells them their grade*
"Oh... I see. Phil, your calculator sucks."

Some people are just too stupid to use a TI-89 ;-) And yes... I go through this convo almost every day. Some people ALSO do not learn.

The same thing happens to me every day when people ask to borrow my 89. Though its a good thing they think the 89 is stupid because the teachers in my school don't realy know what it can do or else it would be banned.

:-) Yeah, the TI-89's Home Screen takes some getting used to, doesn't it?

Lol... the first time any one saw an 89 at Ranchview (2 year old highschool, yep , so new equipment) they were like "holy crap... where do I do the math"
I just sayed "just type in your math like 2+2"
"Where?"
and I just simply just typed sin(2/5) for them....then they understood ;)

I've actually found people who have the nerve to ask me where the "ON" button is... No offense meant, but she was sort of a blonde who I'm sure would have figured it out had she not thought it was beneath her to do so.

I only bring my TI-85 to school, not my V200. Strangely, everybody crowds around me when I take it out. Therefore, I seldom bring it.
Okay, I am the only on in my class that owns a calculator, except for my friend.
So I should bring my calculator to class.

His profile says he's 11, so I'd assume he's in 5th or 6th grade.

I got my calc when I was ten, as well, btw. (or was it 11?)

Sometimes... everyone knows that it is easier to get the programs from me than to borrow my calc. (Yes, that implies they have their own. i haven't gotten anyone to remember how to use Omnicalc/Symbolic for more than 5 minutes.) I carry my own link cable at all times.
