Introduction

You are probably wondering what Banchi is. Banchi is a Chinese game meaning "half chess." It is played on a board that is half of a chess board, and with weird looking Chinese pieces. There are two players, the red and the black. Each side has seven ranks of differing numbers. They are:

  • [0] Cannon - 2
  • [1] Paun - 6
  • [2] Horse - 3
  • [3] Cart - 2
  • [4] Elephant - 2
  • [5] Guard - 2
  • [6] King - 1

    Objective

    The objective of the game is to kill all the opponents pieces. The game is NOT over when the king is killed.

    Killing

    Some general rules about playing is below (in addition to the fact that each one can cannibilize (kill an opposite player of equal rank) and that each can kill a cannon except the paun):
