First post! Whoopdee doo...

Anyway, I love April Fool's jokes, but you guys should probably do something a little more convincing, like the HP ad thing from last year. Also, don't change it to fake news for a couple of days, so people start believing it.

Yes, every year the jokes are getting better. (Actually, this was only done twice, but still the jokes are funny.) It's like a tradition in TI community. In April 1st, every TI site had some kind of jokes.

It's good to have a sense of humor for the community. The jokes shouldn't be taken personally and they aren't meant to be personal jokes to put someone down. The tradition must live on...

They should be done more than once a year.
I love 'em!

I think that I'll start making a joke on the first of every month. Unfortunatly for you, I am the lead programmer for a computer software company, not the webmaster of a calculator website. Due to recent downsizing, I am also in charge of my companies website however, expect a joke in 10 or so days. Click above to see it.

People start believing it, especially when they don't realize fake news appears in another color. That was a dead giveaway to me, and took some of the fun (surprise) out of it. Oh well. Maybe, since it is an April Fools joke, you could make it appear to be real news then have it say April Fools real big when people go in to read more. After all, it's just once a year...

When doing April Fools jokes a person should be careful that noone gets hurt emotionally; however, since this is a calculator sight, it is probally highly unlikely that a person's emotions are to be hurt.

No...Don't be "politically correct!" People should post stuff without being so concerned about hurting other people's feelings. It's freedom of speech.

Freedom of speech doesn't give people the right to say anything wherever and however they want though. It's not always to your advantage to be blatantly rude to people. If you offend someone too much, they won't bother listening to you. There are better ways of expressing the same ideas that don't hurt your credibility as much, and the larger the audience that is willing to listen to you, the more people you can influence with those ideas. There are ways of not being politically correct that work better than others, and a little bit of care on the author's part is never a bad thing. One shouldn't be so politically correct that they become brainless lose their own voice to the crowd. It's like news that only reports what people want to hear instead of what really happened. Something like that anyway.

I'm not advocating being purposely rude to people. What I mean is, state the point, not hide it behind useless political talk...Everything you say will offend some people, even you state a fact of existence like "The sky is blue." I don't think you should specifically worry about offending people, just don't set out to intentionally offend anyone.

Have you ever noticed the suppression of free speech in public schools? I am finding myself censored (my opinions, writings, not mannerisms) in more than one class. My English teacher, for example, won't let me use 'A Clockwork Orange' as my choice for a book report... or '1984' for that matter...

shouldn't freedom of speech be freedom to state an opinion or fact. since slander isn't really either of these and is more like a rumor, jokes should be fine, especially the ones at ticalc. if someone says "89s rock and 83s and 82s suck!" that is there opinion and should be allowed. If it makes someone feel bad, (I think that they obviously must believe those calcs suck) they could freely state otherwise or feel crappy and become mentally unstable

I agree, I've had enough of this crap about not stomping on people.

1) All jokes make fun of someone/something
2) No matter what you say, you're going to offend some 10 member cult

That's really mean to make light of stomping on things. Dinosaurs did that and they would be highly offended by your comment.

I realize that a number of people disagree with my comment. I am just telling to be constructive about what you say. Not hurting people's emotions is not equivalent to being politically correct. Yes, any action and any word does offend at least one person; however, an offence has the capability of not hurting some one.

Re: Re: Re: Should ticalc.org continue to make April Fools jokes?

Yes, as this forum has proved, anything you say can be offensive. Notice how you said to keep "constructive" on comments, and you were responded with many people who disagreed with you, and which some may have been offended. Offense is merely subjective. I can say "89's suck!", and some people could take offense, or some could join in. In layman's terms, be constructuve if possible, but ain't no harm done in offense. Shoot! Footbal would be plain boring if there was no offensive line, and what about hockey, eh? How many of us do enjoy the fights and the so called "offense" that one player has against another. I like it. Sure it may be violent, but in the end, the strong survive, the weak perish.

BTW - y'all stink like rotten eggs! HAHA!

A lot of the games I've made are in ASM! I sent in a game called prgmBAD a few days ago, but it hasn't appeared yet. It's not that bad, either (despite the name)...
Soon, I'll add different gameplay modes and other things such as multiple highscores and the ability to choose your ship!
