Absolutely I was too. The only things people had on mine before I introduced asm was some stupid drugwars game, a dumb bowling game and some math progs. They would have killed for a hicquest!

Heh, I had a stupid drugwars game (kind of cool) too, originally, but without it I might not have gotten into programming so soon. I remember viewing the source code afterwards and proceeding to make the most bloated tic-tac-toe 3 in a row game ever. =-) I think it might have been 15k, and my AI wasn't even done lol. At least I've gotten better, I made a much smaller two player 5 in a row game later on..and my best program is probably a text animator.

Hehe, *underground* supplier. It's well known to people at my school that I supply TI-89 games. =-) They are perfectly fine to have in my school, I would think that it would be a free speech issue if my school didn't allow them. I'd be pretty ticked off if that happened, as TI's are personal property and it's not like they are school provided. If it did, though, people could conceal them, as doorsos allows you to hide programs.

Man I wish I could figure out how to put an asm on my calc, let alone spread it. Right now the only games at my school are some lousy text based games that are all clones and redone stories of the rest of them. I'm trying to get my friend to learn asm or at least figure out how to draw on the 82 so his games aren't so boring.

The reason is probably that most of the kids who recived the games were told something more like "Come to me later for more" than "Go get a GraphLink for $35 and go to ticalc.org for more."

Uh...

That's because the people who DIDN'T spread the games, AREN'T on this site... if you did a pole of every TI calculator user then no, I don't think the number who said "Yes" should be higher.

I said "Yes" because the only people who had _TI-89_ games were from me, directly or indirectly...

Re: Re: Re: Were you personally responsible for the introduction of calculator games at your school?

I can't say that I was personnaly responsible because other people will have found games anyway. But I just remember the old time with fargo on my TI92 when nobody had such a calculator, then they watched me playing skrwks between courses...
I also remember when in first year in my high school (i'm french), when we were told to have a 89 or a 92/92+, then in classroom, the only sound which covers verbal discussions was "click,click,click,click,..." ( repeat 500 time) of phoenix !!!
I also remember the release of street fighter, then the classroom sometimes heard "ryu win !!!" or something like that.
I also want to say that basic games are not so poor ! I remember (it was my old time, as my math teacher repeat all the time) when a good drugwar was released in basic : this game was nearly as apprecied as asm games.
Of course, everyone know that basic games are the best games for a TI92+ : see Terminator 2 in 3D !!!

I'm completely responsible for all the games in my school, because I'm the only one who has a graphlink. Nobody knows how to download and transfer files to the calculator and nobody wants to pay money for graphlink.

I am personally responsible for ppl in my school even buying ti graphing calculators. i've directly influenced the purchases of at least 15 calculators, and i think there are no more than 25 graphing calculators in my school(only about 350 ppl.) I am also the only one who has a graphlink that knows how to use it. you would think i would get a little respect for this...but no.

Age fits for most to have started games.
Knight/Rocket Account Info

According to a survey given 7-10-2000, 47.7 percent of people who visit this site are 17 or older. This means that many of them started high school in 96 or 97, before calc gaming really got started in schools.

This logic leads to the reasoning that calc gaming had to be started by someone in that age group, and those who are voting members of a TI calculator fan site are prime candidates for that to be true.

Therefore, while there may be people who lied on this survey, a large portion of this site's regular patronage fit the profile for a person to start interest in calculator gaming at their school. They were of the right age in those critical gaming years of 95-97, they show great interest in the calculator's potential by being members of a TI fan site, and, by reading through comments and profiles, many of them own or have access to a Graph Link, making them a prime source for games.

In conclusion, to those who call others liars, remember this: these are the diehard fans of TI. These are those initiates to the hidden wonders of programming. These are the generous ones who share that knowledge with the neophytes of the TI world.

you have to remember that the graphlink revolutionized calculator gaming, and that wasnt out in 96-97. so it was a lot harder to spread your game around, especially outsite your school

I only sympathise with your comm port problems.
Like everyone else on this page, I too started the ti-gaming trend at my school after getting a graph-link and discovering this site. Unlike everyone else on this page, I took advantage of the fact that I was the only one with a graph-link.

I charged $3 a download, plus $1 for every time I had to reload the games and fix the calculator (asm games have a tendency to crash calculators-- all the better!)

Also unlike most people, I didn't even have to take calculators home to load games.
I simply kept a copy of all the games on MY calculator, so I only had to link the two calculators for a minute or so.

keep that in mind if you continue to hand out games

Alas, it is no longer a monopoly. Someone else has one out there and is putting on games without any sort of charge. Maybe I'll charge to help fix their calcs. (people don't even know how to chage from radian to degree! not even some teachers!)

Thank you and goodbye.

When I first came to my new school all people had were TI-83 Plus Calcs. I talked to my math teacher about my TI-89 and she said the 89's were too hard to use and she didn't recommend them and said that I would have trouble using it! It turned out that the only people who had trouble with them were the math teachers! Actually my English teacher figured out how to use an 89 and deleted all of the games on my friend's calc.

My first game was this huge version of Who Want's to Be a Millionaire? That I wrote after figuring out If-then loops. It was really bad but nobody had ever seen anything like it on a calc.

Now that everybody has 89s I regularly take them home and "set them up" with asm stuff after someone asks that familiar question:

"How do you get those games in that calculator?"

when i first went to school people only had 82's and 85's Basic was king, drugwars, snake, archery (in which arrows did not hit the targets), etc. ah, the good old days when we all did basic for fun (you know -you write a new basic program every week or so and pass it around school)

At my school i was the game guy, but not the first, it was kind of a tradition that a few seniors passed down to me and I passed down to a friend when i graduated

Same with me. I introduced 82 ASM games during my sophomore year, when I bought an 82 and a Graphlink at the beginning of the year. The 82 was stolen after a couple months, and I replaced it with an 83+, introducing 83+ games (and soon 83 games) to the unwashed masses. A couple friends of mine have since bought Graphlinks, and they work at distributing games too, now.

Spread around the school for 3 years, wow. I've only been doing it for two. When I take calcs home to put games on them I give them a little fee: One game of Tetris. But with my high scores ranging between 33,000 on the 83+ and 55,000 on the 86, and 410,000 on the 89 I really annoy a couple of people.
