I am also attending summer school. In my case it is to jump ahead so that I can take the Calculus higher level International Baccalaureate exam in two years.

yea, Im taking summer school to jump ahead too. (like last year) Im taking Government and AP computers. so that I can take 3 science courses (Chem., Physics, and Astonomy/Geology) next year instead of just chem. and then take physics my senior year. This way I will have a bunch of even more easy classes my last year of high school. . BTW. . I will be a Junior next year. *and if your a senior and your sayin ha to this. Well ha to you, cuz right now I'm also taking college courses at a near by community college, (that I am getting credit for. and it is trasferable to any college in the United States, so HA)

I'm a senior . . . so HA, you suck, why waste high school time to take college classes, and then not get the full experience at college? doesn't make sence to me. . . I (and most people I know like me) decided that we were going to blow through high school (the easy way. . . ie no cc classes), and then take our 4 years at a college to get all of the bandwidth time for downloading pir... i mean freeware software and mp3s... WOO HOO haray for boobies too!!!

Yeah, and the voting will probably be somewhat skewed by the fact that the only people that come here often enough to see this survey will be the ones that are more likely to use their calc over the summer.

Only one calculator????? What true nerd would leave home (or their room for that matter) without at least two calculators? I almost always have all 4 of my graphing calculators (83,85,86,89) on me, and usually a TI-34 scientific too. But then again, there are lesser nerds out there...

I don't think I'm good enough to be a nerd. Anyway, I have 2 83's, and a bunch of Sharp calculators which I intend to open, and tinker with down in my basement work-cofee-table/labratory. But I could never go without programming my calc over the summer! Wasting the time that I could be using on the computer.

Nerd - that pimply thing
Geek - person with advanced knowledge of computer microarchitecture

If you're a geek, you're a nerd.
If you're a nerd, you might not be a geek.

Nerd - bad
Geek - good

Think u got it backwards...(i.e. computer nerds..) never hear much of unix geeks or geeky programmers... where I come from a geek is a guy who acts goofy or is just plain wierd, and a nerd is a begrudgingly sought after pillar or knowledge. I'd say I'm a mix of the two :P

You're only a REAL(aka hardcore) nerd if you go around saying things like "neato" or you know every programming language on the face of the earth (I personally know BASIC, BASICA, QBASIC, BASIC, BINARY [yes, damnit, you can program in binary. I've gotten more crap about that.], C, C++, All current forms of TI basic and ASM, HTML, Java, Flash, and RPX).

No, you *cannot* program in binary. Binary is a number system. You can write machine code in binary or hexadecimal, but machine code is a processor-dependant language, and binary and hexadecimal are only methods of representing information.

I guess you would call it "programming in binary," though. In common language, that should equal writing machine code. It's crazy, and whoever does that is both a nerd and a geek, and probably a hacker, cracker, or whatever (I don't want to accuse anybody, though; maybe I'm wrong about that).

BTW: How narrow can this get?

Yeah, I think you'd hafta be really strange to program in binary. I'd like tp be a nerd, but I don't have the expierence. I know no programming languages (ok, a but of QBASIC, TI-Basic, and HTML, but those don't count) and am only just passed Algebra, although it was advanced algebra from Stanford. So I'm a poser nerd. Better yet, a nerd in training.

then someone (i.e. ticalc.org staff) should change the last choice to "i'm a geek; leave me alone"

and nerd does not necessarily=bad
however, geek is a better term for us that fall into that last choice, possibly even the last two

btw- I am a big nerd wannabe- but I still don't understand why you would carry around an 83,85,86,and 89 when you could keep selling them all and eventually buy the next one to come out. (Look down the page a little, There's some talk about a Ti69). Oh well- the hardcore nerd stuff is sometimes lost on me even though I try really hard to program well in assembly (I just have an 86)

I woln't go to school without my 89 (for games) my CFX-9850GB+ (a color casio for math) and a FX 115w (casio 2 line scientific)

In my opinion, casio is better for math ( the menu is nice. the 89 is hard to use with out reading the manual)
my 89 is awsome for games (except that I just upgraded to 2.04.)
and the fx 115w is the best scientific ever. can do regressions and equations.
