I was originally planning on grabbing one almost right away, but since it looks like it isn't very hackable I'm considering waiting (possibly indefinitely)... :(

I'd wait until everyone else has gotten one and see what's good and bad about it as far as programming and gaming on it goes.

I would get one right now, but I lack funds.

Hahaha, I have the funds but I lack the need to be up-to-date. I just got a v200. Perhaps I'll buy an Nspire when the price comes down some.

To be sure, the TI-Nspire promises raw power never before experienced in a graphing calculator. Of course, that power comes at a cost. . .

That said, I don't think I will be getting one just yet; my 84+ SE still serves me well. . .

No, I have an 83+ and an 89Titanium. If I WAS to buy something, I'd upgrade my 83+ to an 84+SE.

Also, the N-Spire's lack of programming support is a big turn-off to a Mastergamer like me.

My TI-89 Titanium suits me just fine right now. Besides, I don't like some of the rumors I've heard about TI-NSpire, especially regarding programming. I use my calculator(s) mainly for developing and using software. It's neat because I can take it anywhere. :-)

Also, even if I decide I want a new calculator, I kind of prefer to let it be around for a while first to give time for some early bugs to get worked out, programs and development support to start getting released, etc.

A similar thing happened to me when I bought my TI89 Titanium. About a month after I bought it, HW4 was released...

I want to get one, but I really need a new laptop right now... And if I can't play games on it.... Terrible. Besides my 89ti is good for now

I dislike the whole based off of the Ti-84, the lack of programming, and I just don't think it is very practical. I loved my ti86. I kinda liked my ti89 but it broke and I couldn't get it working again. I just wish that they'd make one like the 86. It was bigger than the 83, and easier navigation, quicker screen refresh rate. I just think it was better made. If they could make the nspire more like the 86, or 89, or 92+ then i think it would be more worth it. seems like a glorified scientific calculator that can graph. I don't want one... but that's just my fractional dollar

It's not based off the 84+. It's completely different. It just has 84+ emulation with the TI-84+ keypad. Also, a CAS is very practical. Way more advanced than a glorified scientific calculator.

It looks like not many people like this calculator. Maybe if enough people vote on this TI will provide more programming support in the first OS upgrade for the NSpire.

Only if it is programmable.

Otherwise, what's the point?

once assembly is hacked, we can write BASIC and other types of compliers.

TI-BASIC is not compiled, it's interpreted. The two are completely different.

That would not stop anyone from making a compiler...it would just probably be a lot more work. I personally would rather see a Scheme or Haskell interpreter, though.

I'm perfectly content with my TI 83 Plus. The Nspire isn't a neccessity; it's a luxury.

I'm planning on buying it early, perhaps one of the school units, but I am still skeptical if it's something I really want. I mainly buy calculators for programming and practical use, and while it looks cool and has all sorts of tech specs, I have read through the guidebooks for them, and there seems to be little programming support. I'll at least delay until I know I can use all of that raw calc power, because the insanely high resolution and RAM space seems like a great platform for programming games.
