Is this just to see how many people have been around ti-calcs to know about the older calcs?

Everyone should know what ZShell is! It's where the whole TI-ASM revolution started!

ZShell was the first program to make assembly possible on the calculator and was the first assembly capabilities. It was made for the TI-85 and has some good games. It was first released in 1995.

Let's think for a minute. Does the posting of something automatically halt all voting at the time mention so that something will remain true. No. Is their a magic updater that watches the percent and rewrites it? No. Believe or no, things change. It's nothing to fret over, you'll get used to it.

I voted “no”. I knew it was an assembly shell, just not for which calc. I don’t (and probably never will) have a TI-85. Although I do have a TI-85 emulator that I play games on all the time. Why bother playing real 3D shooters when I can play games on my TI-85 emulator? Wait! That’s illegal! Got to go hide from TI’s layers. Bye.

Oh wow. VTI is about to overtake ZShell as the top downloaded program of all time (well, since stats started being recorded). Last time I looked at the stats page, ZShell was about double everything else.

It is good to see that two of the most significant programs (ZShell because it brought the world of asm to calcs, VTI because it allowed programmers to test their programs without crashing the real calc and debugging) are right there neck and neck. ZShell will probably be taken over by a few other programs, however, because it is nearing complete obsolescence.

Oops, I forgot to mention:

Kudos to both Rusty Wagner (VTI) and Jimmy Mårdell (ZShell) for their pulchritudinous contributions to the TI Calculator Community.

Jimmy Mårdell did not make ZShell. He made Usgard. He did write many fine programs for ZShell, but he did not write ZShell itself. Dan Eble, Magnus Hagander, and Rob Taylor were the creators of ZShell, and should be treated with great respect.

You are, of course, correct. Sorry for the misinformation, I haven't used an 85 since 1997, and for some reason I remembered Jimmy Mårdell as being the developer of ZShell (doh). As you said, he did make many contributions to many calculators (including the ZShell School).

To correct my erroneous post:

Kudos to Dan Eble, Magnus Hagander, and Rob Taylor for ZShell.

I must say that look at doors on the Top Downloads page. It is the Doors out of date. If VTI gets updated, it adds the old Download Statistics to its updated statistics. But with Shells, because they have a new file place, it separates the old shells and the new shells. I bet you Doors would of already been first already. And probably 2000 more downloads than ZShell by now.

Actually, Corey, that's the fault of how we archive shells.

It's not *their* fault that they write a shell :P

:-)
nah, I'll let them battle it out for fun...besides, I'm not really all in favor to either one. their both great. of course, all of MY programs are so much better. which is my ticalc.org won't post them. they don't want every one to feel bad at my supiority :-)

(and all flames can be re-directed to your butt, that was a joke jerk-nose!)

Typical answer from the man in blue.

Let me guess...
1. Is ZShell2 coming out?
2. Is ZShell being ported to all the other calcs so you can run 85 programs on your 83?
3. Is ZShell being bought by TI?
4. Is ZShell being used by Microsoft as the base for Windows 2000 Consumer Edition? Or perhaps Windows CE?
5. Or most likely, did the makers of ZShell pay Nick D a lot of money and/or praise in order to get a poll done to publicise one of the above points.

Waiting for your answer, Nick :)

Susie sells ZShell by the seashore? By the way, for all of you who have been misinformed your entire lives, Nick is the man. No, you aren't, and no one else is. Nick is. Nick is the man. Any in dispute are merely ignorant or ... dangit ... that word for disagreeable but not the word disagreeable ... bah. Thus my lousy 650 in SAT Verbal. Thus my lousy 1450 SAT score. Bah.

I would take a 650/800 to a 670/790, especially since I took ten practice tests and got 800's across the board on them.

And I only scored *ten freaking points* higher than you! :)

And plus you can get free calcs on it. :) but I would also like to say. . LONG LIVE Z-SHELL (it wont go down w/ out a fight) even though I do not own an 85. just 83,86,89, & 92. BLAHHHH
