I use it mostly for math. Algebra stuff, usually. I don't do that much Calculus with it now (seeing as I won't be taking Calc for another year... *sad face*). The trig functions are probably what I use most, because of Physics and Trig.

The only thing I might use my TI-89 for, more than what was mentioned above, is for doing problems for fun or for competitions (USAMTS).

I was using mine almost exclusively for programming until the school year started. With math team, orchestra, band, tennis, soccer, and all the other things I do, there really isn't much time for writing programs. Recently, I also have been working on the USAMTS with mine. I wrote a program to solve one, but while it was running, I figured out how to solve it without a program.

Haha, I use programs to solve the problems for me all the time. But, I write them in Java. I choose Java because of the way it can handle arrays and because it's faster than... say, QBASIC or TI-BASIC. (Even though Java is still considered slow compared to completely compiled languages that don't run through an interpreter)

The interpreter makes debugging really simple. You can also do interactive sessions with the interpreter to do specific tasks.

Debugging? I never do any of that. I don't make mistakes in my programs because I'm perfect. ...

120d. But seriously, that's cool. That might come in handy because the way I "debug" my code is to look through the parts that could have errors, line by line...

I use my TI-89 mostly for symbolic manipulation. For number crunching, I need to use an RPN modle.

I really only use my TI-83+ for Algebra and Geometry classes, then I play games when I have the time or nothing interesting is going on.

I voted for Programming, because that's why I got my v200.
I was wondering, what's the difference between HW2 and HW3, and if TI is going to release a HW3 for 92+ and v200?

The big difference with HW3 is support for the USB link.

I voted programming, since that's what I've historically used my 4 graphing calculators for. They also get used for general math stuff and calculus.

I must be a rare bird to exclusively use my Voyage 200 just for physics, calculus, chemistry, and engineering classes. I generally only program only to perform a specific calculation (such as a program to calculate for the variables in the Ideal Gas Law and find normal vectors, etc.) Nor do I play games much anymore- a VERY occasional Tetris game is it.

Not quite so rare...I use my TI-92+ mainly for my Calculus III class, my todo list, & the math problems I work on in my spare time, except for a few games of Tetris every once in a while (HS 428579).

Definitely the finance application. It's great at finding net present value, payments, interest rates, internal rate of return, you name it. You will eventually need excel to do complicated problems, but the finance app is great for early finance courses. it does nearly everything a financial calculator does.

And also the stats apps. They come in real handy in intro-stats classes. Now i'm using SPSS and minitab, but the apps come in handy when I'm not near a computer with that software. but you do use the 83 stats functions in finance class, for solving standard deviation and averages and stuff.

I voted for other. Finance majors unite! hahaha.

I use mine primarily for programming first and foremost, but i also use mine for gaming every now and then.
Oh, and the ability to use my calculators for advanced math and graphing is an added plus. ;-)

Because it's pretty sad if you primarily use your $90-$150 calculator for games, when there are $70 GameBoys on the market, and are in color. True, you have to pay for games on the GBA, but a calculator should not be bought just for gaming alone.
