i think that the reviews are a great thing. However, I have been know to go against the crowd. One point, my love for the program Integrated Desktop. I don't understand why it is not so popular...

Well, I agree with you. So, there's one person. And also, as of now, reviews have the majority of the votes (2). :) Right now, you're going with the crowd (of three people).

I run ID, and I love it. As far as this poll is concerned, I think everyone can guess what I voted for. ;-)

Whoa! I hit refresh, and this poll popped up!

I think it's the reviews. It gives you other people's opinions on programs. That is a good thing.

How was there two votes before me!? People vote so quickly on here...

But all the choices are good. I think reviews and constant uploading of files are the two two. But they're all good, so I don't know :)

How did others post before you? Well, as morgan said, he is the new survey editor, and he told tow people he was talking to that he made a new survey, right after he made it. This is what AIM gets you.

Ooh... but still, you posted just seconds before me. That was kinda cool.
Looks like reviews, file archivers, and faster posting are winning. I didn't expect the faster posting to be at the lead.

Hey you guys. I am kind of the new survey editor for a while. I have an inbox with no survey suggestions at all, please send me some...I'm not too creative on these types of things, but we'll see how it goes. Send them to survey@ticalc.org

i have a question related to this survey and surveys in general. Is the POTM award gone forever and replaced by POTY? I think that that is a mistake, because some really great programs may be released early in the year, and people will have forgotten about them by the time the POTY voting comes around in december.

I have been told that the POTM is not coming back. They had various reasons why (problems), but I wouldn't know of them because I wasn't a visitor here when they were running. All thought we are getting enough featured files to have it!

Yeah I agree with the whole concept of programs being forgotten. It;s kind of like the Academy Awards....all the winners are the more memorable movies, which are the ones released right before the new year.

We actually kind of saw that this year with Ice Hockey for the 68k calcs....it got a lot of votes, and I am guessing because it was uploaded a week or two before the voting. But then again Gran Tourismo pulled through...so that just contradicts everything I just said, so nevermind!

I think people going for an award intentionally release it in the fall to get a better chance. I think a couple nominations this year were actually released in January, but critics could seem them in December. Perhaps this will become the trend (I doubt it) with ticalc.

How about this:

Rate this poll:
1. Great!
2. It's Okay...
3. Not creative enough
4. What's a Poll?
5. None of the above
6. All of the above

How about another geek gender poll... that's alway's interesting. Or maybe ethnicity to see which minority has the most geeks. Perhaps religion and just disable comments for that poll to avoid friction?

"debate," "conflict," "ruckus..." all gross understatements of the all-out righteous war that would break out between you-know-whos and the other you-know-whos...
but yes, it's fun, and always makes for good debate practice (if you're in that class)

That makes no sense. It's perfectly legitimate for someone to care about international affairs. Don't think for a second that only the US, Iraq, and the rest of the UN contries involved are the only ones affected or the only ones allowed to hold a care or opinion on the subjects.

What I meant is something like:

War in Iraq (and other places according to the same principles) or not? (slippery slope?)

War on Terrorism-"Information Security" or not?

Guys with machine guns at airports harassing journalists coming into the country on business without filling out form 82(c)b7 or not?

Issues of global nature like that. It's been done-like the 2004 poll. I didn't mean "Do you want to vote for Bush" or things of that nature. Or better:

Copyright laws or not?

International treaties preventing intellectual property theft or not?

RIAA lawsuits or not?

DMCA or not?

anyone who would vote against copyright laws is a fool. there could be some arguments for music downloading, but it can hardly be argued that photocopying an encyclopedia and selling it on ebay is worng. I personally would rather have copyright laws... I don't want anyone stealing my work.
