random or pseudo-random? Are you using your calculator to make this "random" guess?

but is there a true random? It is possible, although hopefully not true, that there is no free will, and all human actions are governed by physical laws. But then, why are we self concious? And why couldn't our calculators be concious too?

Sorry if too OT

Phil? Hey! That's me! I caused the downtime! Maybe because I visited the site too much. It just couldn't take it anymore, so it crashed.

Yeah, I know... it wasn't referring to me, but that would be pretty funny if it was. :-D

I voted Magnus, also... but I really have no clue. Do you think they'll tell us who it was? ;-)

Damn, I was thinking that some staff member had tripped on a server power lead. (wouldn't be the first time)

Only one staff member has physical access to the server.

but why would the one with physical acces do a remote reboot?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Who do you think caused the ticalc.org server to go down?

Because the one with physical access *knows* when somebody can physically go to the server and reboot it. Based on how long that'll take, said person can judge how big the damage to ticalc's reputataion will be.
Or, more to the point, I don't really believe any of the staff members are the kind of person to take the site down just for fun. So, if it needed to go down for a good reason (which could be something like maintenance), then it's at least likely that the
person with physical access was the one to do the
maintenance, and therefore, the reboot.

I beg to differ. I have *never* tripped over the power cord to ticalc.org, or to any other server for that matter.

(Also, the power cabling is routed so it's impossible to trip over it)
