First post??

Wow, I can't beleive I was here right after a new poll! I got the 3rd vote!

I doubt they will release a new one sure, but they might... Well, actually, you could say they did with the rename of the 73...

If they do, I probably won't get it because I won't have a need for it.

Someone has probably beaten me by now... :\

Speaking of, I think that they could (and just did, id est 73XP) but won't likely do it soon.

I would have gotten 8th vote, but it won't let me vote! On every poll I try to vote on, it says that I already voted on it but I haven't. Oh well.

Maybe your cookies are bad. Maybe your browser doesn't support cookies. Maybe your browser has cookies disabled. Maybe somebody else knows your password and voted in your account. Maybe you did something to make ticalc mad and they blocked your IP from voting. Maybe you were hallucinating when you voted. Maybe I talk too much :)

well, as far as cookies, they work unless it's just ticalc's cookies that don't work on my computer but I have voted before, this is just in the last two or three polls

j/k

But that is a tad interesting, him not being able to vote....

they're putting up new surveys every three days or such!!!

Yeah... it's probably a problem involving cookies.

It is good that they're frequently adding surveys :)

They are making new ones so often, mostly with no reason other than sales, why woon't they make a new one? I still hope they make a flash 86

Hate to be a pessimist, but don't count on it; if they wanted to do that, they'd done it long ago (probably before / instead of the Silver).

What is the advantage of the Silver Edition? I mean, it's got more Flash ROM, but why not just get two TI-83+'s, download some two-player games, and see if you can beat yourself in Tetris?

I like the TI-83+se because of its massive amount of archive memory. It's good for games, but if you're not a game person, then don't bother... save a few extra bucks and go for the 83+. You can't fill up 1.5MB with math programs made in basic. ;-) (Well, it's possible...)

Silver Edition
Ordoinc.  Account Info

The TI-83 Plus SE is much better than the 83 Plus. I can store three, maybe four, times as much programs on an SE than the regular 83 Plus that I used to have. And two 83 Plus calculators would cost more than one 83 Plus SE.

One problem that I have found, however, is that MirageOS crashes on the SE whenever you attempt to run a basic program within MirageOS and some Flash Applications screens shrink to a square if it reaches code it doesn't like. The right 20-or-so pixels freeze. You just have to restart the app.

Yeah, I've heard of a lot of strange errors on the TI-83+SE. My one friend; whenever she turned her SE on, it would automatically turn off. Another friend had hers run so slowly that the cursor toggled blinking ever 30 seconds or so. After I played with it for a while, it went back to normal. I wonder if there's something different in the processor or something that's causing these errors.

Ideas:

Turn on/off: Try new batteries. They're probably not powerfull enough to keep it on. When that happens to my 83+, I know it's time to change them.

Slow cursor: Check the link port. Maybe something's broken off in there.

Thanks :) I'll remember that for next time... you know, come to think of it, when I was playing with the link port (I was going to attempt to send her programs to another calc before she reset it), it suddenly went back to normal. I'd never seen that happen before :D

I used to have those types of problems but somehow I fixed it. I revamp my calculator so often who knows what I did to fix it. Also, a silver can hold a heck of a lot more than 4xs that of a normal 83+. About a year ago I put every ION game on the archive on it and still had room left!! I even put all except one of the apps out on it before it began running out of mem. The only problem was in the program menu it took a good 15 sec to go to the bottom (that is when I pressed up). Also, one of my friends told Mirage to Sort and after an hour I pulled out the batteries.

I am sure that TI will release another calc. I'm taking about a remake, a new calc, or anything. It would probably be a remake or enhanced version of a current calc though.

Does the 89 have more memory than the 83se? I have 179 programs on my 89, and haven't even used HALF of my mem...I even have a program to count how many programs I have :)

Can't measure by number of programs, in theory, I could store 1500 1k programs on my SE (assuming no VAT). Or I could store 1 big 1.5 MB program and use the same amount of space.

I've been wondering this for too long... what's VAT? I've seen it so many times and never understood what they meant by that.

179 programs on the TI-89 would be easy, if they were all small basic programs. I mostly have big ASM programs, so I have around 20-30 on there and extra space is getting rather small. Believe it or not, I think I have most of my space taken up by text files, not games.

Re: Re: Typo...

The 86 wouldn't be profitable. I'd never buy onee. The 86 is a marginal step upward compared to the 89. For example, I have a TI83 series calc, and I find that I need more power than the 83 series calcs can offer. What am I going to think about?

First of all, I look at cost, $120 or $160 at OfficeMax (hmm... I think I'll waste more money). But after looking at the qualities of both calcs, the cost seems marginal. One calc has the CAS which could be used in a gazillion math classes compared to the features of the 86. I don't want to buy a calc that will only last me a year or two only to have to buy a newer one.

Say that I can sell my old calcs for 66% of original cost. That would be pretty good. TI 83+ SE then sells for about $86, TI-86 sells for $80 giving me total revenues of $168. Purchases equal $130+120+160 or $410-160+20 (cost of sale and shipping old calcs)= $270 net expense. WHereas, skipping the 86 results in $86 total revenue. $130+160=$290-86=$204 in total expenditures.

The best long run choice is the avoid the 86. If TI makes anything, I would thik it would be inbetween the 86 and 89 with a mid-range price. I doubt people do the math as shown above, but they sort of know it anyway.

defintly going to make one 83+SE, V200, 73Exp, next would be an 86, unless they give 82's flash first. i would buy an 86+ if they ever came out with one. would suc if you just brought a normal 86. i got my 83+ just before the 83+SE came out.

the TI-82 evolved from the good old TI-85...
the TI-85 evolved from the TI-81, which evolved from the TI-78, which evolved from the TI-74, which evolved from a couple more calcs which evolved from the TI-59, which evolved from the TI-58, which evolved from the TI SR-50, which evolved from a couple more calcs, which evolved from the TI SR-10 which evolved from the TI-2500 Datamath. Evolution is a long process that took us from four functions to 205 (?) in our TI-85s. It is still a long process. Really.
