See the web stats - the majority of the users are still in the US, so when they are active, it's peak.

I know, but it is ironic that you'd be at ticalc.org then go to ticalc.org!
never mind...

ticalc.org is the slowest site I regularly visit. Sometimes I only get 29KB/second, and it's not my connection.

If you let me know your IP in private email, I can investigate with our provider where the issue is. It may not be possible to do something about it, but we can try.

The speed seems to vary much...My peak is 79KB/second, but that's slow considering from other sites I am getting about 320KB/second...

Interesting.

Before switching, we ran tests from and to a lot of places (US, Europe, Asia, Australia etc), and I don't think anybody ever got less than 6-8Mbit... (Assuming they had a decent connection on their end, of course. ADSL and the likes will never get there, not to mention dialup)

What do you mean "decent connection?"

And what's so bad about adsl? works fine for me.

It's relatively slow, usually 256kbps, sometimes 768.

"ONLY" 29KB/sec? I remember the good old days when "baud" was a common term. If you could download a file faster than you could read it, you had a top-notch connection. At home, I regularly connect at 21.6Kb/sec (about 2KB/sec download speed). If I can stream internet radio, I am happy.

It would be perfectly fine if the page would load line by line as it downloaded, but that's not how the Internet works. I have to download the entire page of comments before being able to read it.

Well, it could work that way. It is just that the forum, and the rest of the ticalc.org site for that matter, is in a table. Web browsers don't like to render tables before they get the whole thing because it takes more power and code to do so.

By the way, sorry if I sounded angry with my last comment. I re-read it and it sounded as though a bit of anger may have found its way in. When you have a connection to the internet like mine and you vist sites where they assume you have broadband (not that there isn't a site that doesn't assume that, except ticalc.), it just makes me angry.
